Stellantis has issued a worldwide recall for over 352,000 Jeep vehicles

Stellantis is issuing a recall for certain Jeep Grand Cherokees due to an assembly problem involving the rear coil springs. These springs have been installed incorrectly, leading to a risk of detachment.

As per the Safety Recall Report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it is estimated that 331,401 vehicles in the United States may be affected by this issue. Stellantis has confirmed the voluntary recall of these vehicles in the US, along with 14,487 in Canada, 1,677 in Mexico, and 6,643 in markets outside North America, bringing the total to 354,208.

It is important to note that this recall does not pertain to SUVs equipped with an air suspension system.

The recall is not attributed to a faulty component but rather an assembly error, whereby the rear coil spring may have been installed in an incorrect position.

According to the report, if the rear coil springs detach from the vehicle while driving, it poses a hazard to both the driver and occupants of other vehicles. This unexpected detachment may lead to crashes and potential injuries to vulnerable road users.

As of May 25, 2023, there have been two customer assistance records, 17 warranty claims, and two field reports that could be potentially related to this issue. However, the report does not indicate any injuries or accidents associated with the detached springs. Stellantis maintains a continuous monitoring system for vehicle performance, using various channels such as social media, call centers, and reports from service technicians.

Stellantis is a conglomerate consisting of 14 automobile brands and two mobility arms, including well-known names such as Jeep, Chrysler, Fiat, and Ram.

Eric Mayne, spokesperson for Stellantis, mentioned in an email that while the defect is estimated to affect approximately 13% of the recalled vehicles, customers are strongly advised to follow the instructions provided in the upcoming notices, which will be mailed starting from July 28. The necessary service will be performed free of charge.
